Many years ago, a group of us who consisted of our church leadership had as an assignment, individually been seeking direction from the Lord in regards to some decisions the church was to make. After our given time was up and we were all sure we'd heard from the Lord, we all came back together to discuss what He'd told us. We were perplexed to discover that we each had heard something that seemed quite different from the rest. As you can imagine, this brought about disagreement with one another in what we believed our answers should be. We then decided to take some more time and process our situation.
As I was taking my questions to the Father, it went something like this; " I know that each one of us hears your voice so I don't understand how if we all know how to recognize your voice that we each heard something so different from one another"?
This is what Holy Spirit showed me and since then I've never forgotten it as it taught me how to function with my brothers and sisters in Christ; "together we are an entire body, but individually we are only a fraction of a body. The portion we've been given is just that, only a portion. It takes the entire body bringing our portions together to make a whole rather than merely a fraction."
So then how is it that one can hear what seems to be the total opposite of another and yet both be hearing from God? Think of a puzzle. There are many, many pieces of one whole puzzle. Most of the pieces look quite differently from the others, with much of the reason being that it is dependent on where each particular piece is to be inserted. The border pieces are generally shaped quite differently than the center pieces.
This means, if my portion to give is one that's taking place along the perimeter of the season or within the groundwork, and someone else's piece is meant to be inserted much later on, or in the center of it all, our pieces will most likely be quite different from one another.
Therefore, all who have been given pieces are truly hearing from God but not necessarily to be actively played out in the same timing. Make sense?
One Body with many members means, depending on where any given member is located on the body will determine the perspective, angle and function they have been given. The foot knows what's going on from ground level while the eyes have a totally different view into the air and what's up ahead.
So in this time of so many people searching for answers and so many giving their pieces, let's keep in mind not to discount someone else's piece or discredit them as being wrong, rather try to understand that our pieces are a small portion of a much bigger picture and each one is no more or no less important as the other.
**Please note; when I say we may be hearing what seems to be the opposite of one another, I am not making reference to anything that opposes God's actual word of truth. I'm referring to people who hear God and walk in the character of Christ and the discernment of the Holy Spirit.
